FAQ
Freediving Malta, your questions answered
The most common questions about booking, requirements and our Molchanovs courses — answered. Anything else? Message us on WhatsApp, we reply quickly.
Do I need previous freediving experience?
No. The one-day Discovery experience is designed for complete beginners. You learn the basics step by step — theory, breathing, relaxation and supervised line diving — with a certified instructor by your side the whole time.
What's included in the €130 Discovery day?
Everything: pick-up and drop-off at Mġarr, Gozo, all freediving equipment, theory and safety briefing, guided breathing and stretching, a supervised line diving session and underwater photos. Just bring swimwear and a towel.
How do I book a course?
Message us on WhatsApp with your preferred dates. We confirm availability, sea conditions and meeting details — booking is done entirely through WhatsApp.
Where and when do we meet?
Pick-up is every day at 10:00 AM at the Mġarr ferry terminal in Gozo. Courses and experiences run daily, subject to sea conditions.
What is the Molchanovs Wave 1 course?
Wave 1 is the world's most trusted beginner certification: 3 days of theory, relaxation, breathing and progressive depth training to 20 m, for €430. It certifies you to freedive safely with a buddy.
What is Wave 2 and who can join?
Wave 2 is the advanced Molchanovs certification: 4 days covering mouthfill equalization, freefall and training towards 30 m and beyond, for €480. You need Wave 1 (or an equivalent certification) to join.
I'm already certified — can I train with you?
Yes. Certified freedivers can join guided line training sessions for €70 per session, with coaching on technique and depth on the dive line.
When is the best season for freediving in Malta?
May to October offers the warmest water (22–28 °C) and the best visibility. Spring and autumn bring quieter dive sites, and courses run year-round when conditions allow.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
You should be able to swim and be in normal good health. All activities take place in a supervised environment with buoyancy and equipment provided — you don't need to be an athlete to start.
Will I get photos of my dives?
Yes. Underwater photos are included with every Discovery day and course — you'll leave with memories as well as skills. Have a look at our gallery to see exactly what to expect.
Why choose Molchanovs freediving education?
The Molchanovs Movement is the largest freediving community worldwide, officially launched in early 2018. It is built around certification courses and quality training — a complete freediving system created by professional and recreational freedivers, from your first breath-hold to record-level depth.
When can I start the freediving course?
You can start immediately — the best time is now. Booking begins with registering your details on the Molchanovs dashboard: once your course is booked, you gain access to the study materials and tutorials.
Is a deposit required to book?
Yes. We accept a deposit to secure your booking and the registration fee — it confirms your spot in the course.
How long does it take to finish the course?
The certification courses consist of several open water sessions plus one pool session. If you're based in Malta, there's no need to take them consecutively — we build the schedule around your dates.
What is the Molchanovs education dashboard?
The dashboard is the home for all freedivers, regardless of location, goals or experience: educational materials, weekly Base Trainings, your logged achievements and a community of freedivers to exchange knowledge and train together with.
When will I be certified with Molchanovs?
Once you meet the Molchanovs requirements for your course — both in the sea and in the pool — and pass the course exam, your certification is issued. It's recognised worldwide and never expires.
