Wave 1 vs Wave 2
Wave 1 or Wave 2? Which certification to book
One is a first certification, the other is the step after it. Here is exactly what changes between them — depth, prerequisites, equalisation and price.
Which one fits you
Wave 1 or Wave 2: which should you book?
The honest answer for most people is Wave 1. It is the entry certification in the Molchanovs system, it assumes no previous freediving, and it is the course that makes you a safe, self-sufficient buddy at 12–20 m. Wave 2 is the next step, and it only makes sense once you have that foundation in place.
Choose Wave 1 if
You have never been certified, you dived years ago and want to start again properly, or you are on holiday for a few days and want a certification that never expires. Three days, €430, dives to 12–20 m, a static breath-hold of at least 1:30 and full safety and rescue training.
Choose Wave 2 if
You already hold Wave 1 or an equivalent certification from another agency, you are comfortable at 20 m, and your ears equalise reliably. Wave 2 adds mouthfill equalisation, the freefall past your buoyancy point, FRC dives and training towards 30 m — four days, €480.
Certified with another agency?
You do not have to start again. Send us your certification and we run a short skills check on the first morning, then cross you into Wave 2 and only revisit what actually needs refreshing. Divers who are not quite ready for 30 m sometimes get more from a line-training session first — we will tell you honestly which it is.

What divers say
“Top guy! Relaxed instructor, zero ego, safe and confidence inspiring. I did the Wave 1 course over the past few days and couldn't be happier. Octopus, eels, pipe fish, caves... And we saw a seahorse. Thanks dude.”

“I had a great time diving with Ivan! I am Molchanovs Wave 1 and came to Malta to expand my depth experience and maybe get some new PBs (and i did!). I dived with Ivan for 3 days in a row - all great session where I improved my dives every day and got familiar with new techniques and theory. Thank you, Ivan - see you next time!”
